Justin "Josie" Joswiak
June 12, 1986 - December 21, 2003

Teammates Share Favorite Memories

The way Justin always made me and everyone else laugh until we couldn’t laugh anymore.  –Bradley Kohring

My favorite memory of Josie was the playoff game this year when he leaped off the mound to catch a pop-up.  He always did everything he could to make something happen.  He never gave less than 100% at anything.  That’s why we all love him.  Love, --Adam O’Malley

I don’t really have favorite memory of Justin.  Every time I was around him was a good memory because of his fiery and fine personality.  He was always the lift of the “party.”  You could always expect some excitement when he was around.  The thing I most appreciated about him was that he treated me with the same respect that he gave to the other baseball payers even though I’m younger.  Just was always teasing me about my diet and how I loved to eat.  At a recent scrimmage our team was down by a couple of runs and Justin said to me, “I’ll hit a homerun and then you hit one and we’ll win the game.”  I will miss his fun-loving attitude and the way he always did thing out of the ordinary.  Just this past week when it was cold outside and before practice, he was running through the parking lot in only his sliding shorts.  I wished I had more time to get to know him better.   –Colby Price

The 2004 team dedicated its season to "Josie"
who in their hearts will always wear
the Brenham Cub jersey of #1!

Brenham Cub Jersey #1 was present at
all games during 2004.

*The “Raspy Voice” from the outfield or the dugout, saying, “Let’s go Pollack, or let’s go Blake.”

*His demeanor on the pitchers mound during a game (the way he walked around on it after every pitch).

*If there was a ball in the outfield that could be caught, it would be by him.

*The fiery attitude

*Bar-B-Q Season

*The fact that he actually thought that he could strike me out (Truth is, I thought that he could, but wasn’t willing to let him know!);

*His unbelievable work ethic;

*The influence that I saw that he had on this group of young men.

These are just a few things that I will remember about Justin.  What an awesome son to his family, ballplayer to the coaches and friend to the guys that he grew up with.

I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.  Now there is in store for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will award to me on that day and not only to me, but also to all who have forged for His appearing.  2 Timothy 4:7-8.

In Christ, Coach Williams

Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for He who promised is faithful.  Hebrews 10:23.  In love, –Coach  Harris

It is hard to write down my favorite memory of Justin, because there were so many.  He was always such a clown.  So I guess if I had to say what my favorite memory of Justin was, that it would have to be Prom Night.  Justin walks through the door with a smile on his face and his favorite person by his side.  The night was his, and knowing Justin he just wanted to get a few laughs.  He was dressed real nice, his tux looked well.  As he walks up to you can see his sparkling white tennis shoes upon his feet.  Everyone got a laugh and so did he.  No one else would have thought it up, but he did.  I admired his courage and his all out attitude.  Try to be strong, I know he would.  He loved everyone and we all will miss him.  We love you #2. –Aaron Green

My favorite memory with Justin was during practice after school in the outfield.  We got bored one day and Justin, Ryan and I came up with the “POON” Club.  The “POON” club consisted of people who missed a ball during drills or was scared to dive or go get a ball.  Of course, I was always in the “POON” club, in fact I was in it so much I was actually elected president.  And Justin of course never joined me; he was always showing us up with circus catches, even barehanded catches.  That is one memory I will never forget.  Brant Taylor

One game when we were playing Oak Ridge, we were winning by quite a few runs and their pitcher couldn’t get his last out.  So Justin goes up to bat and swings at the first three pitches and missed by several feet each time.  Then the pitcher thought he was so good for striking him out. –Weezy

He was the only person I know that could chew 6 feet of bubble tape before every game. Chad

The time I saw him last, he had on a purple PNG jacket.  I asked him, “Why do you have a PNG jacket?”  He said, “It stands for Pretty Nice Guy!”  All I could do was laugh. – Clay VanHook

My best recent memory of Justin and I went duck hunting.  We skipped around a few of his ponds but we didn’t see anything; so we went to a place I know of on New Years Creek.  To get to the location that we were going to hunt meant getting on the other side of the creek.  We wouldn’t jump across because it was too wide, we couldn’t go around because it was too long.  So, with a little looking around and some major brainstorming, we decided to jump a few feet to a tree limb that went across the creek.  Our next move was to swing our feet up and crawl along the limb to the other side.  I wanted to find some other way across but Justin insisted that we make our move there.  I guess for an adrenalin rush or just to make me look like a girl.  With little thought and no hesitation, he leaped up and caught the limb, he didn’t have a bit of fear in him.  I was terrified enough for both of us.  He made it across with no problem and then looked at me to make my move.  I never would have tried to make it across if he wasn’t there guiding and giving me courage.  We did not get any ducks to show for our hunt, but we came back with another great memory and story to tell.  Ryan Majewski

Justin and I went duck hunting one afternoon.  When we shot the ducks, one of them flew off wounded into the neck of the tank where it was coved with trees and brush.  Well, the duck was swimming around in all the bushes.  Well, Justin thought was had to get that duck so he threw his gun down and stripped own to just his underwear and went in after it –Bradley Mueller

Justin and I have been friends since the first grade.  I have a lot of great memories of him.  Each year we would go fishing for his birthday and then go back to his house and play video games all night.  Every summer, Justin would come camping with me at the lake.  We would ride the tube and the ski bob all day long.  Justin was a fun person to be around and would always make me laugh.  He was a good friend and my life will never be the same without him. –Blake Rosenbaum

There are many good things that I remember about Justin.  One that really stands out was this summer in Mississippi when we both shaved our heads.  We called ourselves the buzz brothers the rest of the summer.  I remember it was the championship game in regional tournament and I had just hit a home run.  He was the first on waiting on me on the other side of the plate.  He took his hat off and said rub heads.  We did this the rest of our games that summer every time one of us did something good.  –Chase Wheaton

This summer when we were playing in Big League World Series in South Carolina, Justin decided to wear XXL pants (triple the size he normally wore) and the crotch went down to his knees.  He played the whole game in those XXL pants and that was the funniest thing I have ever seen.  Chad Schwarze

My favorite memory of Justin was when I was 14 and he was 15.  We were playing Little League baseball that summer in Waco.  It was for state.  It was a new field they built and the sun set right behind home plate so you could not see when you have to play the late games.  We were playing a 6 o’clock game and the sun was bad that day, you could not see at all!  A kid hit a deep fly ball to center, and Justin was playing there.  He said, “I could not see it but he heard Chase say back.”  So he ran all the way to the fence, and at the last second he saw the ball.  He ran too far so he fell backward and caught the ball.  It was the best catch I have ever seen.  I’m glad I got to play with such a ball payer like Justin and I’ll never forget him. –Blake Schwarze
